the Trials of Writing

One of the things about writing that bugs me the most is when it reminds me of how little I know about anything. I feel my personal knowledge about the subjects that I do know is not enough or interesting to write stories, article or even poems. I'm left wondering what I can contribute to the literary world and that bothers me a great deal.

I'm trying to write a short story right now and I'm figuring out to write adequate description for it. I don't know that much about scenery or architecture to create captivating images for readers. I mean, I don't want to simply say: "The big brown tall building was in the middle of the street or the lane was lined with big beautiful trees."

I would like to know what kind of trees and what kind of building style it was or what kind of trees. Knowing that isn't enough either, because I need to be able to also blend it into the story so that it flows and helps the story along; however, I still need to know some basic stuff about these two topics to make my description and setting effective and realistic.

I'm researching all the time and and I just get overwhelmed with all of the information. I wish I could find a website that could give basic info on home and building design as well as nature stuff. That would be a tremendous help and I wouldn't end up feeling like an idiot.

Day One!

Well this is day one of my first blog. What I really want from this blog is to keep a daily record, and I do hope I blog on a daily or at least weekly basis, of my writing progress. I've been writing on and off for years, but this year I am committed and determined to become a published writer.

Here are a few things I'm currently doing to improve my writing. I'm analyzing a novel to help develop my own writing style. I'm also reading a dictionary from beginning to end to improve my vocabulary. I'm also working on a novel outline, plus doing research for questionnaires I'm developing for interviews I plan on conducting for my novel.

The other projects I'm developing is an article for a local magazine and a memoir about a personal experience I went through a couple of years ago.

I'm hoping all of these projects will help me improve significantly as a writer, regardless of the outcome. Meaning that even If I don't' get published or sell anything, that's okay, I'm still going to continue with my writing. Well that's enough for now, I'm off to write!

Another blog about writing!

Yes, that's all we need, another blog about writing or about anything else for that matter. However, when you feel very passionate about something, then you just can't help but try to express yourself about it. I'm an aspiring writer, and hopefully I will be a published one someday. I've always written stuff here and there, but I finally decided a year ago to try and write professionally. I would like to write creatively through fiction on non-fiction or articles as a freelance writer.

This blog will be about my journey and development as a beginning writer. I plan on sharing with you what I learn and achieve along the way in this process and maybe I'll be able to teach you something as well.

Sometimes, I'm prolific and other times, I can't get anything out of me and that frustrates the hell out of me. Regardless, I'm going to write and keep trying to write. I just hope that I don't bore the hell out of anyone with mindless rantings. I would like to both inform and entertain you, because that's to me is the mark of a gifted writer.

So welcome to my blog!
